Categories
A category groups items so a long catalog stays searchable. It carries no stock and no settings.
Categories are shared. One category list serves every warehouse of your tenant.
Create a category
Section titled “Create a category”- Open Master Data → Categories in the sidebar and click Add Category
- Enter the Category Name, the word your team already uses
- Enter the Category Code, short and unique, such as
CHEM - Click Create category
Both fields are required.
Read the list
Section titled “Read the list”| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Category Name | The name |
| Code | The category code |
Use the search box to find a category by name. Click a column heading to sort.
Change or remove a category
Section titled “Change or remove a category”Open the row menu.
- Edit changes the name and the code. Every item that holds the category follows the new name.
- Delete removes the category.
The app refuses to delete a category while an item still holds it. The refusal is a general failure message and does not name the items. Filter the Items list by that category first, move those items, then delete.
Where a category is used
Section titled “Where a category is used”| Screen | What it does there |
|---|---|
| Stock → Items | The Category field on the item form. It is optional. |
| Stock → Items | A Category filter above the list |
| Stock → Warehouse Items | A Category filter above the list |
A category belongs to the item, not to the warehouse item. Enrolling an item in a second warehouse does not change its category.
Naming
Section titled “Naming”Name a category after the word your team already types when they look for something. A category called Packaging finds the boxes and the tape. A category called Indirect materials 2 finds nothing, because nobody searches for that.
Keep the list short. A category that holds one item helps nobody narrow a list, and it still appears in every category filter.
Who can change it
Section titled “Who can change it”A role needs Categories at Manage to create, edit, or delete. View is enough to read the list and to filter by category. See Access.
